About Cole

Hunting, fishing, and spending time in; have been the preferred activities most of Johnson’s life. In high school, he added a new activity when he discovered his knack for sketching. This knack led him to pursue a junior college program in Fine Art at the Munson-Williams-Procter Institute of Art and later complete a BFA with a concentration in painting from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Favorite subjects include the species he is intimately acquainted with in the field; the white-tailed deer, trout, turkeys, hunting dogs and waterfowl. Johnson has worked in oils but prefers graphite powder. “The contrast of black and white appeals to me. I enjoy the challenge of making a drawing come to life based solely on tonal value.” says Johnson. Accolades include membership in the prestigious Society of Animal Artists and being chosen Region 1 winner and receiving a Judges Award of Merit from National Arts for the Parks Competition among many others.
